Verification Guidance

Overview

This document describes

  • what authors should check before providing data and code to journals
  • what verifier teams should check for in the data and code provided to them for the purpose of verification
  • how to summarize the results in a Replication report

It can be used as a checklist.

Review the README file

For each listed data source

  • verify information about the data
  • verify information in the data
      • Some of the following may be OK if adequately described in the README and/or the manuscript data section

For each listed table, figure, in-text number

Conduct a code verification, if data is available

    • (Stata only) Reset the PERSONAL, PLUS and SITE locations that Stata uses to search for ado files (this is automatically done by the sample Stata config file)
